Flood Development Permits
A Floodplain Development Permit is required from the City Engineer for all work within a regulatory floodplain (earthwork, fill, excavation, tree clearing/plantings, development, residential addition, shed, pool, etc.). Regulatory floodplains are identified as Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs) on Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Purpose:
- Regulates construction in areas subject to flood hazards.
- For the protection of life and property
- For the reduction of public costs for flood control, rescue and relief efforts
- To promote the safety, health, convenience and general welfare of the community
- Imposes restrictions upon man-made changed to improved and unimproved real estate within flood hazard areas
